Chickens can get bird flu and you don’t even know it. By the time you know, it may be too late.
Less obvious symptoms may be overlooked without careful observation, or inexperience. However, you may find that all of your chickens die suddenly in one morning.
Check the flock. Note any changes in appearance behavior and eating habits.
Some signs of bird flu include eating less, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, reduced egg production, lack of energy, swelling of the face, purple discoloration of the face, lack of coordination, diarrhea, muscle tremors, drooping wings, twisted head and neck , cannot move.
If your flock has avian flu, you may see one or more of these symptoms.
Blood tests are sometimes required to determine if a flock has been infected. There are many blood tests for large poultry companies, especially their breeder flocks.
Some signs of bird flu also indicate other diseases. If your chickens are sneezing, it doesn’t necessarily mean they have bird flu. It is best to contact your local veterinarian.
