Ventilation points for broilers in winter

When it comes to ventilation, many people think that it is the same thing, but it is actually different. Ventilation is not only for ventilation, but also has a very important function – cooling! The purpose of ventilation is not to cool down, but to discharge harmful gases, supply sufficient oxygen for chicken growth, and maintain the freshness of the air in the chicken house. This is especially important during brooding and cooler seasons.

Ventilation】

In the case of closed low-temperature chicken houses, the introduction of fresh air outside the chicken house and the discharge of dirty air in the chicken house to improve the air quality in the house is called ventilation.

Ventilation is mainly concentrated in the late brooding period, when the body grows rapidly and the amount of oxygen required is very large. In addition, there is a lot of food and drink, and a lot of excreted. Therefore, the first task during this period is to ventilate. Good ventilation can reduce the occurrence of ascites, respiratory disease, Escherichia coli and other diseases. Ventilation in winter is an important means to control the air environment in the chicken house. The main reason for the increase of ascites in the later stage of chickens is the relative hypoxia caused by poor ventilation and rapid growth of the body. Generally speaking, the problem of sick chickens that spread from the middle of the house is mainly due to lack of oxygen caused by poor ventilation.

Common harmful gases in chicken houses are CO₂, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and CO produced by coal stoves. These harmful gases can stimulate the mucous membranes of chickens, especially the conjunctiva and respiratory mucosa, causing eye diseases and respiratory tract inflammation.

When the concentration of ammonia gas is more than 20ppm, it is easy to cause keratitis and increase the susceptibility to Newcastle disease virus.

When the concentration of carbon dioxide is more than 2500ppm, colibacillosis is difficult to control.

If the ventilation is poor, excess moisture, dust, bacteria, viruses, etc. in the house cannot be discharged. Colibacillosis will break out one week after the dust peak;

Therefore, the occurrence of late viral diseases, respiratory diseases, peritonitis and other diseases are directly related to the hypoxia caused by poor ventilation.

ventilation】

In the case of high temperature, ventilation is called ventilation by increasing the airflow to make the chicken feel comfortable to alleviate the adverse effects of high temperature on the chicken.

ventilation control】

Ventilate as much as possible under the premise of ensuring the temperature. There must be good ventilation in the house from the second day of picking up the chicks.

During ventilation, it is necessary to keep the temperature of the chicken house moderate and stable without drastic changes. Control ventilation every day, and strive to make the air in the chicken house fresh and free of peculiar smell.

When the sun comes out every morning, ventilation is the key point. The ventilation at this time is most conducive to alleviating the lack of ventilation in the second half of the night and the lack of oxygen when the chickens are vigorously active.

The cold wind at night is not allowed to blow directly on the chickens, because blowing on the chickens, especially on the belly of the chickens, is a thief. And if you can’t blow on the chicken, it is ventilation. Therefore, in the middle of the night, pay attention to temperature changes and wind speed control to prevent cold. Ventilation requires no dead ends to prevent thieves.

Different ventilation methods should be selected in different seasons: natural ventilation and negative pressure ventilation. Generally, negative pressure ventilation is selected in the coldest and hottest seasons, and natural ventilation is selected in other seasons.

In any case, a certain wind speed should be maintained in the house, so that the air environment in the house is uniform and the ventilation in the house can be carried out normally. Even in winter, a certain airflow speed should be maintained, preferably 0.1-0.2m/s, and should not exceed 0.3m/s. 0.01—0.05m/s, indicating poor ventilation. It is good to keep the brooding period below 0.5m/s in summer, and the open chicken house can reach 1.0—1.5m/s is ideal.

Leave enough air inlets, pay attention to the direction of the deflectors of the air inlets to be upward.
